The brand will occupy the former River Island unit at 2 George Street, bringing 5,431 sq ft of health, beauty and cosmetics retail space to the neighbourhood. The new store will further strengthen Stamford Quarter’s growing reputation as a leading beauty and wellness destination within Greater Manchester.
Superdrug is one of the UK’s most recognisable health and beauty retailers, offering customers a wide range of cosmetics, skincare, fragrances, toiletries and everyday health essentials, alongside accessible beauty services. The arrival of the brand builds on the strong momentum in the health and beauty category at Stamford Quarter, following the 2024 opening of LOOKFANTASTIC’s first concept store, Rituals in 2025, and the continued success of other complementary operators within the area, such as Holland & Barrett and Boots.
Recruitment for the new Altrincham store will begin shortly, creating new job opportunities in the town centre as the brand prepares to open its expanded space. More details for candidates interested in applying will be shared in the coming weeks.
Chris Houghton, Head of Retail & Leisure at Bruntwood, said:
“Superdrug’s arrival at Stamford Quarter brings a well-known high street name into a prominent unit on George Street and adds further choice for visitors to the Stamford Quarter.
“Our focus continues to be on maintaining a mix of independents and national brands across health and beauty, fashion, homeware, hospitality and everyday essentials. Superdrug complements that wider offer and supports the continued evolution of the Stamford Quarter as a vibrant part of Altrincham town centre.
“We’re pleased to see that Stamford Quarter continued to attract more people into the town centre in 2025, and announcements like this help maintain that positive momentum.”
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council's Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: "This is great news for Altrincham. Residents and visitors to the town will be pleased to see another big-name store opening here, as the Stamford Quarter continues to grow and thrive as an established and much-loved shopping and leisure destination."
