A GOOD DAY IN ALTRINCHAM

AN ALTY #STREETZINE

As part of Stamford Quarter’s ‘Summer of Play’, a brand new mural and co-created poem featuring two local artists - comic book aficionado Rick Eades and creative word artist Kirsty Gbasai - have collaborated with the community of Altrincham and the results are in.

The artists have been working over three days to install the artwork with a little help from seasoned muralist Oskar with a k to get it over the line and looking fine.

The creative collaboration is now on glorious display on Stamford Square. Pop down and have a look to see if you can spot a familiar Altrncham face in the ‘crowd’

THE STORY SO FAR...

SKETCH SQ WORKSHOPS ON GEORGE STREET

Over the course of 2 pop-up workshops that took place in the Stamford Quarter in May, over 70 people (children and grown ups) had their likeness and words brought to life by the team of artists.

The fun and interactive sessions were used to ask what a ‘Good day in Alty’ looks like, their words listened to and interpreted by Kirsty Gbasai while they were cartoonised by Rick Eades. The team went away to curate the #streetzines mural over the next two weeks.

MURAL INSTALLATION

Over 3 days the artists set to work on installing the mural in the newly reopened Stamford Square. Starting with Ana, our friendly local barista over at Starbucks! Lucky for us the paint was drying quickly in the sunshine and the team got stuck in preparing and painting the 13 metre long wall. It wasn’t long until the passers by were stopping to take in the work so far and snap a couple of pictures.
